NETGEAR Support

At present date having access to wireless broadband is an absolute necessity for office, home, schools, colleges, and businesses. With many routers offer good features, most still come with faults that make life a lot harder such as in setups and limited security.

A Netgear router attaches multiple devices to the internet connection, either by cable or wirelessly. If we can’t connect to the internet, the problem can be anywhere whether in devices or technologies that connect the computer to the internet. By knowing troubleshoot Netgear or another wireless router is an essential part of determining where the problem is and fixing it. Various problems are:

   1. Difficult configuration-
How long does it usually take up to set the router? When was the last time the user was able to get it right on the first try? And how about getting the wireless printer to connect to the network. Each network is different and getting the right combination of settings can be confounding.

   2. Enable file sharing on the router-
Many routers come up with USB ports to which we can connect an external USB drive for simple backup or file sharing.

  3. Performing firmware updates
Router firmware needs to be kept up to date. But finding firmware updates on a vendor’s website is not available for everyone, and many vendors don’t make it easy.

 4. Enabling temporary wireless access
If the user has needy neighbors, do they really want them to permanent access to their entire network? If a user simply gives a visitor their router password, then they probably need to change this information when he leaves their home or office.

the 5. Determining who is on wireless network-
Just because we think our network is secure does not mean it is. It’s probably a good idea to regularly check to see who is using your router, especially when we have not changed the router’s password. It’s quite hard enough to remember to back up our computer.

6. Changing DNS provider-
After we have set up our network, we probably don’t give our Domain Name System settings any further thought. If we have a cable or DSL modem, it automatically gets its DNS settings from the cable or phone company’s DNS service.

Now come to the point which will resolve all the above problems. If user is experiencing with connectivity issues, follow these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Contact the Internet service provider (ISP) to verify whether user’s device is activated. If cable modem, modem router is never activated, user must activate it using their ISP’s self-activation process.

  2. Check the power levels of the cable lines that connects cable modem or modem router. If power levels are not within the required levels, contact ISP.

  3. Remove splitters that might be located between cable line and cable modem. Splitter reduces the signal quality of the cable line.

  4. Check cable modem or modem router’s firmware version. If a user doesn’t have the latest version, contact ISP.

  5. Power cycle the network. Most connectivity issues betwee a cable modem and modem routers can be resolved by performing the power cycle.
